Grose Design Q&A

You asked.. I’ve answered! Thank you to everyone who submitted a question via the Grose Design Instagram page.

What made you want to be a graphic designer?

I’ve always loved anything that allows me to be creative. I tried a few different mediums at College such as painting, print, textiles, CAD design, 3D modelling and photography and I found they all fed in well to Graphic Design. I could use graphics in conjunction with all these projects ..so that’s how it came about!

What is your approach to design?

I would say I like to provide authentic, relevant design. I like to get to know who I’m working with and get a feel for who they are so the visuals are fitting with their personality and their business’ brand.

What is your favourite type of project to work on?

When there’s a product to sell! It’s so satisfying to see a product on the shelf after working on the flat designs on my computer.

What else are you passionate about, outside of work?

I enjoy upcycling furniture, I find repurposing objects so rewarding. Although it’s a hobby that runs the risk of turning into a hoard so I have to be selective of my projects! I also love to be outdoors, the Isle of Man is such a beautiful place it would be a shame not to explore it.

What has been the biggest challenge for you starting up a new business?

Pricing was one of the biggest struggles I found to begin with. As a new business you’re still figuring out your worth and it’s something that comes easier with experience.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

I was taught this during my time studying Art and Design and it became more apparent once I set up my own business – Learn from your critics. Designers can be very precious about their work and can take offence if people have negative comments. The bottom line is not everyone is going to agree with your decisions, critique gives you something to learn from and develop your skills.
